Privacy Policy

This policy explains what QuantAim collects, why, who else sees it, and how to get it back or get rid of it.

1. Who this covers

QuantAim LLC operates quantaim.org, including QuantAim Academy (the education product for schools, teachers and individual learners) and the QuantAim investment research tools. This policy covers:

• Individual learners and investors using QuantAim on their own.
• Students, teachers and administrators using QuantAim Academy under a school or district licence.

2. What we collect

• Account information: name, email address, country, year of birth, and role (student, teacher, admin). A mobile number may be provided but is optional and is not required to use QuantAim.
• School accounts: school or district affiliation, class membership, and grade level.
• Learning and usage data: lessons completed, quiz and assessment scores, mastery levels, time on task, streaks, Portfolio Simulator activity, and written work including trade justifications and free-response answers.
• Google Classroom roster data, if a teacher chooses to connect their Classroom account: course names and the names and email addresses of students on that roster, used solely to match them to existing QuantAim accounts. QuantAim requests read-only access and cannot modify anything in Google Classroom.
• Billing information for individual paid subscribers, handled by Stripe. QuantAim does not receive or store card numbers.

QuantAim does not collect real brokerage account details, real financial account numbers, or real trading credentials. The Portfolio Simulator uses simulated funds only.

3. How we use it

• To deliver the curriculum, track mastery and progress, and power the Teacher Dashboard and school-level reporting.
• To evaluate written student work using an AI system (see section 4).
• To provide support and respond to enquiries.

We do not use student data for targeted advertising, and we do not sell student data under any circumstances.

4. AI processing — what leaves our servers

Some features send text to OpenAI for processing. This includes the AI tutor, grading of free-response answers, feedback on written trade justifications in the Portfolio Simulator, quiz hints, and the investment research tools. Where a student has written something, that written content is included.

We send this content solely to generate the response or evaluation shown back to the user. QuantAim does not use student work to train any model of its own. OpenAI's handling of data submitted through its API is governed by OpenAI's own API data usage policies.

AI-generated grading and feedback is automated and can be wrong. Teachers can review and override AI-assigned scores on free-response work, and can rate and annotate trade justifications, through the Teacher Dashboard.

5. Who else sees data

We do not sell user or student data. We share only what is necessary, and only with:

• GoDaddy — website and database hosting.
• OpenAI — AI processing, as described in section 4.
• Google — only where a teacher connects Google Classroom, and only to read the roster data they authorise.
• Stripe — payment processing for individual subscriptions.
• School and district administrators — for data belonging to their own students and teachers, under their licence.
• Where required by law, or to protect someone's safety.

Market data providers (including Yahoo Finance, the Federal Reserve, the ECB, and SEC EDGAR) receive only requests for public market information such as ticker symbols. No user or student data is sent to them.

6. Keeping and deleting data

We keep account and learning data for as long as the account exists.

• Download your data: any signed-in user can export their data as a file from their Account page.
• Delete your account: any signed-in user can permanently delete their account and the learning data attached to it from their Account page. This is immediate and cannot be undone. We keep only a dated record of the deletion itself, with the email address stored as a one-way hash, so we can confirm a deletion happened if asked.
• Students enrolled in a class cannot delete their own account, because their coursework forms part of their teacher's records. Their school controls that data and can request its removal.
• Schools and districts may request deletion of their students' data at any time, including on licence termination.

7. Schools and FERPA

For students accessing QuantAim through a school or district licence, QuantAim acts under FERPA's “school official” exception, with a legitimate educational interest limited to providing the licensed service. Schools and districts retain ownership of their students' and teachers' data. QuantAim does not use it for any commercial purpose unrelated to providing the service, including advertising.

Where a district requires its own Student Data Privacy Agreement, those terms govern where they conflict with this policy.

8. Age

QuantAim accounts are for people aged 13 and over. Year of birth is collected at registration and accounts are not created for anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if we learn that we have, we delete it.

For school accounts, the licensed school or district is responsible for verifying student eligibility and for obtaining any parental or guardian consent required by applicable law before enrolling students.

9. Security

• All traffic is served over HTTPS. Plain HTTP requests are redirected, and the site sends HTTP Strict Transport Security so browsers refuse unencrypted connections.
• Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes. We cannot read them.
• Session cookies are marked Secure, HttpOnly and SameSite, so they are not sent over unencrypted connections and are not readable by page scripts.
• API credentials and database credentials are stored outside the web root and are not accessible over the web.

10. Your rights

You can export or delete your data yourself from your Account page. For anything else — corrections, questions, or a request made on a student's behalf by their school — email ejanecek@quantaim.org.

11. Changes

If we make a material change affecting how student data is handled, we will notify school and district customers directly rather than only updating this page.
